American Flag Backlit

The Flag Code suggests that when a flag has served its useful purpose “It should be destroyed, preferably by burning.”  For individual citizens, this should be done discreetly so the act of destruction is not perceived as a protest or desecration.

The Sergeant Bluff American Legion Post 662 in conjunction with other local American Legion Post and with “Freedom Park” in South Sioux City, Nebraska conduct annual disposal ceremonies of unserviceable flags normally on Patriots Day in September.  Such ceremonies are particularly dignified and solemn occasions for the retirement of unserviceable flags.

Take your old flags to the George Nelson Post 662 of Sergeant Bluff where you will find a large stainless Steel box to put your unserviceable flag in.
